Surfrider Goes to the Supreme Court

It is unfortunate but exciting that a case fighting for clean water is going all the way to the US Supreme Court, and Surfrider Foundation is one of the plaintiffs. On November 6, 2019, the highest court in the land heard arguments regarding Maui County’s Lahaina Wastewater Reclamation Facility, which discharges treated sewage into groundwater and makes its way to the Pacific Ocean. The case is extremely important for the future of the Clean Water Act.

The Maui Chapter began fighting this almost a decade ago, and the court case began in 2012. More about that here.

And we thought this was won a couple months ago, but the Mayor in Maui County is not agreeing with the County Council. More on that here.

We had many “Coastal Defenders” show their support for clean water by rallying outside the court.
