Anita Harrington

Secretary

(she/her)

Meet Anita Harrington, a passionate ocean enthusiast and the D.C. chapter’s secretary (and unofficial surf trip planner). Her journey with Surfrider began during her college years, where she studied marine biology and served as Vice Chair of the University of North Carolina Wilmington’s Surfrider Club, channeling her dedication into ocean and coastal conservation. After earning her masters in marine science in Hawaii, Anita continued her conservation career as a marine biologist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, championing the protection of marine life. Anita's commitment to safeguarding our seas led her to the bustling shores of the DC area, where she continues to make waves as an integral part of D.C. Surfrider since 2021.

Cait grew up in the seaside town of Oxnard, California. Her love for her hometown's coastline and marine life inspired her to begin volunteering with the Surfrider Foundation in 2013. Over the past decade, Cait has volunteered with the O'ahu, Ventura, and DC chapters of Surfrider, helping to remove trash from countless different coastlines and riverbeds. In addition to serving as a member of the DC Chapter's Ocean Friendly Restaurants Committee, she works as an endangered species recovery biologist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Christopher Roberts

Ocean Friendly Restaurant Committee

croberts@dc.surfrider.org

(he/him)

A lifelong lover of the outdoors, Chris has been an advocate for environmental and ocean conservation most of his adult life. Several places he has deep connections to have been badly impacted by our changing climate, and having seen the damage firsthand, he’s particularly interested in trying to mitigate the impact of climate-related disasters on affected communities and ecosystems. He first helped Surfrider on a beach cleanup years ago here in the States before moving to France and getting involved in several initiatives with the Alpes-Maritimes chapter there. He moved back to Washington in late 2023 and rejoined Surfrider locally on their OFR team. Outside of his day job and involvement with this, he’s an enthusiastic trail runner and swimmer, active with several climate initiatives and animal rescues, and serves as a logistics specialist for a humanitarian aid organization.
