Hey DC Surfriders!
We had yet another great turnout this past Wednesday at our monthly meeting! Big thanks to the Consortium for Ocean Leadership for loaning us their space, which allowed us to skip over to the District Ocean Networking Happy Hour afterward. The event was hosted by Sevenseas Media and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) at the brand new Eaton Hotel. We made a lot of great connections and are planning to continue collaborating with these groups!
A few items to note:
- We have multiple events scheduled throughout the rest of the month! The annual International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) has been postponed to Saturday, October 13th due to Hurricane Florence. The ICC cleanup will be at Kingman Island from 9:30 am – 12:30 pm. Make sure to register for this event! All supplies will be provided as well as lunch.
- We’ll also be participating in a clean up for National Parklands Day on 9/23 from 10:00 – 2:00. Make sure to register for this event too! We have an eye on Hurricane Florence making its way up the coast and will update our social media if there are any changes.
- We’re happy to announce that we have registered 10 Ocean Friendly Restaurants in DC! Big thanks to Lisa Comento for all of her hard work! We are hosting happy hours to celebrate the commitment of these restaurants to the environment and meet with others that are interested in getting registered. The next gathering will be TODAY at Whaley’s from 5pm until we leave. The happy hour menu will be available all evening for our group, plus $1 Riverkeeper oysters all night at the bar! 5 cents from every oyster go to Anacostia Riverkeeper.
