We love our volunteers! Most recently, a fantastic crew of volunteers gathered at a popular picnicking spot along the Potomac River and collected over 200 pounds of trash from the shoreline - all in less than two hours!
Paper, plastic, and glass made up the majority of what we gathered at Arlington's Gravelly Point on Saturday, April 16th. Volunteers also pulled soiled diapers from the water's edge and retrieved a kite tangled in a tree.
After weighing our bags (as well as de-gloving and sanitizing our hands!), we enjoyed classic summer fare from a frozen yogurt and ice cream truck and chatted in the spring sunshine.
Here are some of the wonderful volunteers who participated in our April cleanup!
Two volunteers also brought their dogs along for the fun. Meet Lyla on the left and Bridger on the right.
We love seeing new and familiar faces at chapter events like the Gravelly Point cleanup. Cleanups usually happen the third Sunday of each month, but due to the Easter holiday we decided to host it earlier which made for such a large turnout! Join our mailing list and follow our Instagram @surfriderdc to learn about upcoming cleanups and events.
Speaking of our next cleanup, it will be at Anacostia Park on Sunday, May 15, 2022. We'll meet at the Skating Pavilion 11am on the dot. Be sure to bring water, sunscreen, and your furry friend if you so please. All cleanup supplies will be provided. See you there!
