DC Chapter Wraps an Exciting Year

We’re so grateful for the enthusiasm and dedication of our chapter members amid the challenges of these pandemic times.

Letter Writing

A 2021 highlight was writing letters in support of the Ocean-Based Climate Solutions Act. Nothing like personalized letters to express support for such vital legislation.

Cleanups

Our chapter led or participated in more than 10 cleanups with partners including the newly formed District Cleanups and the Ocean Conservancy. We picked up hundreds of pounds of trash and recyclable materials.

Making Time for Joy and Learning

Several cleanups featured fun activities such as birdwatching at Kenilworth Park & Aquatic Gardens and learning about invasive plants at Theodore Roosevelt Island.

Additional social events included hiking in Rock Creek Park, passing out water to Rock 'N' Roll Half-Marathon runners, and doing yoga together before happy hour at ocean-friendly restaurant RASA.

Familiar Faces, New Faces

Throughout the year, we were heartened to see many new and longtime members at virtual and in-person events.

Our new chapter chair Sydney Swanson stepped into the role in May. She previously served as our Ocean Friendly Restaurants coordinator. Seven more members joined our all-volunteer executive board in subsequent months, with additional members stepping up for special projects.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our chapter this year. Excited for all that 2022 has in store!
