SUMMARY:Michelle Xue Memorial
DESCRIPTION:Michelle Xue Memorial \nIt is with great sadness that we announce the passing of DC surfrider chapter member Michelle Xue. Memorial Service will be held on November 20 from 7-9pm at Pinstripes in Georgetown at the Canal Room. \nThis will be an open environment\, where people are welcome to share their memories of Michelle\, and their thoughts and feelings on how she impacted their lives. \nRest in peace to our friend and fellow Surfrider DC volunteer who’s kindness\, excitement and passion for climbing\, the ocean and advocacy for the environment was an inspiration to everyone she met. Michelle helped our chapter immensely\, with clean-ups\, working to save wild rivers\, and even helping teach our members how to surf. She will be missed by all of us here at Surfrider DC. \n\nAddress: The Canal Room\, Pinstripes 1064 Wisconsin Ave NW\, Washington\, DC 20007\nTime: 7-9pm

SUMMARY:Rally for Clean Water
DESCRIPTION:Rally for Clean Water\n\n\n\nIt is unfortunate but exciting that a case fighting for clean water is going all the way to the US Supreme Court\, and Surfrider Foundation is one of the plaintiffs! On November 6\, 2019\, the highest court in the land will hear arguments regarding Maui County’s Lahaina Wastewater Reclamation Facility\, which discharges treated sewage into groundwater and makes its way to the Pacific Ocean. The case is extremely important for the future of the Clean Water Act.\n\n\n\nOn this extraordinary occasion\, we would love to have some “Coastal Defenders” show their support for clean water by being outside the court that morning. We are planning a rally in front of the Supreme Court on the morning of November 6th\, from 7:30AM to 9AM. Please email the Chapter Volunteer Coordinator at Volunteercoordinator@dc.surfrider.org if you want to join us. Also\, there is a Facebook Event here – https://www.facebook.com/events/2427095367411221/\n\n\n\nThe Court has strict rules. Paper and cardboard signs are OK\, but going onto the steps of the building is not. Bring your own homemade sign about clean water if you want.\n\n\n\nThe Maui Chapter began fighting this almost a decade ago\, and the court case began in 2012. More about that here.\n\n\n\nAnd we thought this was won a couple months ago\, but the Mayor in Maui County is not agreeing with the County Council. More on that here.
